Summary: Life Goes On After a Loved One Dies
Comment: My mother recently passed away and when she did, I looked for some sort of resource that could help or explain to me what to expect in trying to deal with her passing away in a compassionate yet factual way.
I disclosed my recent loss to a psychotherapist in which she recommended this book to me and I got exactly what I needed.
Theresa Rando does an excellent job of explaining the process of grief, how to resolve it while giving advice on what to do, what you can experience in specific situations of emotional loss and how to deal with them.
What I am feeling and what one experiences after losing a loved one, while emotionally painful, is completely normal.
Like Ms. Rando explains, experiencing grief isn't just limited to the death of a spouse, parent, or child you also go through it in other circumstances too such as when a loving relationship you have ends.
Death is a natural part of life. While you may not be able to end the pain associated when a loved one dies or if you experience a tremendous emotional loss, as Theresa Rando explains in this book, you can learn to accept it and move on.
Reading a book on grief may not make the emotional pain go away, but it's a good place to start. If you do decide to read something to help you through your bereavement, choose this book.

Summary: How to go on Living When Someone you Love has Died
Comment: This is probably the best grieving book ever written. The chapters describing the different kinds of loss are life savers. I'd recommend this book to anyone who has lost a loved one - spouse, child, friend or even a pet.

Summary: useful but tedious and repetitive
Comment: I am still very early in grief after a sudden and shocking loss... I just finished this book earlier today and though I would recommend it, I would also warn that it is repetitive in places and you will certainly have to force yourself to read it at times.
You might find that you dont really need to read some sections but in the end I think they are worth reading anyway even if it's pretty boring. It felt like the book could be pruned back to about half the size and still convey the same content.
I am quite determined to handle my overwhelming emotions in a practical way and regain some form normalcy in my life. As a consequence I felt strongly compelled to carefully read every page. If I hadn't felt this strong determination I think I would have not bothered to read more than a couple of chapters and unless you feel the same, you might want to pick up something that reads a little less like a textbook.
