Summary: Very useful!
Comment: Outstanding! This book is comprehensive and understandable. Science diagrams appear throughout, making it easier to comprehend science concepts. Glossary is very useful. Experiments and tests force reader to think and apply concepts. Although this is for preparation for New York's test, it should also be useful for exams administered in all 50 states. And, it should also be useful for anyone who wants to understand basic science concepts that we encounter in everyday life, such as in crossword puzzles, in movies and books, questions asked by our children or grandchildren, and when trying to make intelligent decisions about purchases.

Summary: A Great Science Book for Grades 5 to 8.
Comment: This is an excellent science book for the study and revision of middle school science. The various branches of science are divided into separate chapters such as Energy, Chemistry, Meteorology, Astronomy, Ecology, Geology, Scientific and Mathematical Analysis, and the Unity and Diversity of Life. Each chapter explains the knowledge needed for the New York Grade 8 Intermediate-level Science Test, and closes with a revision test. A useful glossary of scientific words is included near the end of the book, followed by a complete, model examination with answers. Topics are written in an easy-to-follow fashion, with plenty of graphs, tables and diagrams to clarify the information. I love all the Barron's books, and this one is no exception. Highly recommended.

Science Exam for 8th Graders. The exam is comprehensive and complex in
a number of minor subject areas. For instance. a list of areas covered
includes:

o Scientific Inquiry
o Elementary Engineering Design
o Astronomy
o Geology, Meteorology
o Chemical Energy
o Forces and Newtonian Laws
o Graphing ( Linear, Indirect or Cyclic)

Preparation for this exam is considerable. This work covers the areas
fairly adequately. It is reasonably priced for the value of the
information contained.
