Summary: Need at least 3 books or more to do this
Comment: The book is fine .. except .. the best it can do is to briefly cover 1000s of subjects that could easily take a chapter each. And then you want to take an A+ exam that assumes depth in coverage. Impossible. Either the author does not know this, or is not willing to accept responsibility for making the reader believe they are becoming a trained PC tech merely by reading this book. I have 47 years experience doing everything in this book, and I know that you can only learn this material by doing it every day. And one more thing
... seriously ... never go into a computer with one of those stupid electrostatic straps on your arm. It is worthless, and you will drag parts off onto the floor and break them needlessly. Her emphasis on that strap causes me to be very suspicious about her qualifications as a real PC technician. And if the house electricians have wired the power boxes backwards, your "arm" will be sitting there at 120vac just waiting for you to touch another piece of equipment that is wired properly on another nearby circuit. Maybe a cheap lawyer could straighten this out with the A+ people. 120vac hand-to-hand goes straight through your "dead" heart !

Summary: A+ Guide to Managing & maintainging Your PC - 7th Edition
Comment: I have been in the PC and compatible hardware and software industry since 1983. I basically trained mnyself and now thought it would be important to (1) verify what I have learned and (2) get the A+ Cerification for later use in a college atmosphere, as in insturctor. The book is an excellent visual source of past and present technology providing great color photos with detailed explanations on each. Considering the technology area changes daily, it is one of the most updated books I have found so far out there. The local college uses the 4th edition as referenece in their continuing edition classes.
Appendix A covers A+ Acronyms normally used in the trade, while Appendix B covers Windows shortcut key combinations that are very useful when a mouse is not available. With the additon of the detailed Glossary and the CD add-on, you have an excellent reference source of what's required for the A+ Certification exams.

Summary: Useful reference, but factually incorrect
Comment: As someone who's been in information security and networking for over a decade, some incorrect statements really burn my eyes to read. For example, she indicates wireless has a security problem. This is extremely incorrect. Wifi has wpa2, which offers encryption, something wired connections typically do not offer. Attributing the flaw to the technology, instead of the user, is akin to saying encryption is useless because people can use 'password' as their password. Each and every chapter has something that's factually incorrect, so this book is horrible for people just getting into the field. However, it's great for quick reference for those who have done this before.

Comment: The book is quite detailed and comprehensive. I also have the previous version as well and was happy to see the updates.

Summary: This covers it all and has excellent CD content!
Comment: I am really enjoying this book and all that it has to offer. I have been an IS tech for years, but with this industry, you cannot know it all...This book is answering many of the questions I wanted answered. It has explanations and reliable resources. I have not taken my A+ exam yet, but am confident I'll pass; and have a wealth of information for my employmant! Very nice!
